I first saw Mike at Oulton park when I was 16, I remember going there on my BSA bantam , from Liverpool to Oulton park was quite a run on a bantam, but I,ll remember it for ever, my first time at race track, the people, the bikes, the smell of castrol R , and most of all Mike. that day left an impression on me that has been with me all my life. I went to oulton many times after that on all kinds of different bikes i,ve owned over the years and seen all the great riders .I was at the TT in 1967 when Mike won the 250 350 and 500 and many more times including his return to the Island when he won on the Ducati both times. I was at parliament square in Ramsey a couple of years ago when David did a lap on one of the Honda,s dressed in Mikes colours, (that brought a lump to my throat). I,m 58 now with two grown up boys and a lovely little granddaughter, and i,m still a big bike and race fan. the TV coverage is far better these days. but no one can take away the memories I have of the live racing, I tip my hat at all those guys who gave and still are giving us fans such pleasure, and right at the top on my list is Mike Hailwood. I just wanted you to know that. regards, Rod.

Proud to have been around to have followed one of the two finest motorcycle racers the sport has ever seen. Who was the other one? Bob Macintyre, about who mike once quoted "I learnt all I know from Bob. My best memory was the '65 IOM Junior TT tusle between Mike and Jim Redman, another of my heroes. The years may pass but these memories will never fade.

I'm reading -and listening! to your site in the Church where I now work in Glasgow City centre. So evocative! You've captured the memories and the legacy of our racing legend Mike Hailwood. I once chatted to him at an award evening in Burton on Trent town hall, I was there because I was the local Grand Prix racer. We all have such memories, perhaps it was as he came into view and hurtled past on a screaming six cylinder Honda at the Isle of Man. I also remember watching him on the Ducati at the Mallory Park post TT, approaching the esses he sat up as if to brake but kept the throttle wide open, thus taking the lead through a cunning ploy. It Seemed such a robbery when he was taken from us, it churned our hearts, but for all of us life on this planet is only as a breath of air. Why not have a listen to a talk about eternity on our web, I'm doing a series from the gospel of Mark.

I have only just started circuit racing at the age of 46 as it is something I always wanted to do. Mike has always being a hero of mine and to this day he stands as one of the great riders of all time. He walked away from a team (MV) which was an unbeatable combination at the time, to race for Honda which was really in it’s early stages of making any impression on the racing scene, and in the 500 that Mike rode they had a bike that under performed and was one of the worst handling bikes on the circuit at that time-but he pushed that bike into 2nd place overall in the championship which showed the caliber of the man and the daring-simply amazing! His comeback on the Ducati was nothing short of amazing and to follow it up with a win at the TT aboard a bike he barely knew and one which was half the capacity of some of the other bikes he was competing against. His response after his initial test ride aboard the Suzuki square four 500 was that it will do as it is-no complaints or finding fault with the bike to explain any lack of performance on race day-he just got on with it and could ride around most problems with any machine. I can’t wait to see your film about MiketheBike –

Great WEB site for a great man watched him many times, and loved the way he would race any thing available. Keep up the good work with the site and well done, I'm glad you've done this.

There never will be anyone to match Mike. He will always be the greatest. I had the pleasure as yung'un to see him in the Island and on the mainland. I was at the comeback TT and shed tears at his win. Latter I had the pleasure to meet Mike whilst he was in business and along with former Suzuki rider Frank Perris had the honour of doing business with him - a gent. I still have some "Mike the Bike" bits and press cutting. Thanks so much for this site.

So pleased to see the completion of this site dedicated to the memory of Mike, who for me, was the complete road racer, probably ever. He competed at a time when the variety of machines available was incredible; from dated British singles and Italian fours to state of the art Japanese multis and Mike rode all of them. Short circuits or road events, Mike just swung his leg over and gave 100 per cent. I was working in the Girling racing department from 1960 and first met Mike at a testing day out at Silverstone where he graciously bought lunch afterwards and we sat in The Green Man making each other laugh with our Goon Show impressions! Each year until 1966 we met up at the TT and although I felt that the work we did with Mike on the MV's and Hondas to improve the handling round the TT course was useful I always had the impression that he would race anything successfully as long as it didn't break! As a typical example I remember at the 1962 Lightweight, sitting in the tea tent behind the grandstand as Mike went past on the Benelli single to start his last lap in fourth place behind the Hondas(after having had to remove the streamlining and race the naked machine)when the motor blew up with a loud bang and Mike's race was over.Mike had a rare courage and has been greatly missed.
