Hi, I'm desperately trying to get hold of a copy of Mike's appearance on This Is Your Life from 26th November 1975. I have tried everywhere, even the BBC, but to no avail. I only want it for my own viewing, I have an extensive collection and this would be a lovely addition. I remember seeing it at the time but we didn't own a video recorder back then! Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers Paul

I met Mike in 1959 when I started racing a 175cc Ducati. My friends and I were "gooning" around at Castle Combe and Mike heard us and came over and joined in.We all got on really well and that was the start of a very long friendship. My first TT was in 1966 and Mike took me round the course in his hire car during practice week,he gave me many tips, and as a result I was delighted to finish 7th on a Padgett Yamaha in the 250 race,(Mike won on the Honda 6 of course !).He always kept in touch, and followed my racing exploits when he was racing in Grand Prix all over the world and sent me many postcards which I still have to this day.In 1972 he gave me his Bell helmet to keep and to use in the TT,I only used it in practice, and kept it until a couple of years ago when I was delighted to meet David and return the helmet to its rightful home, the Hailwood Family.I could fill a book(as indeed many others could)with tales about Mike.I live in Worcestershire very close to where Mike and his family lived, and make a point of visiting Mike and Michelles very peaceful resting place every year on the anniversary day.In 1980 when my son was born,my wife and I gave him the middle name of Michael in honour of a great friend. In finishing,I would like to congratulate all those concerned with the superb web sight.Terry Grotefeld

Well, it seems I'm the only volunteer to escort David next year.....!! I've posted my plan on several other (classic) Ducati site's bit NOT ONE answer....!! @ Andrew regarding building a Replica, why not use a REAL period Ducati for your project, like a Ducati Darmah, still available for low prices. I built an Hailwood replica myself some years ago, using a 1985 Ducati Mille Bevel Twin engine. Do you know www.bevelheaven.com ?

I have read the many entries to this guest book, and I have very little to add, as I did not know "The Bike" but have followed his storied carrier and respect him as a true "athlete hero" in our time...His acheivements are legendary, and especially in light of the fact that he was so versatile in his ability to "jump on anything, and win". Whether that was a 2 wheeled or 4 wheeled vehicle! This, in my opinion, is the mark of a true Champion athlete with God given DNA!! Other great athletes suchas; Tiger Woods, Jack Niklaus, Michael Jordon, Jean Claude Killy, Michael Schumacher and a rarified few others who simply dominated their respective sports have that same DNA! Mike is not well known in the USA, but that will change as more people hear of his history. As a matter of fact I have just commisioned my Ducati dealer to create a 2007 "MHR 1000s" replica of his winning 1978 IOM TT Castrol Ducati. The MHR1000S started life as a 2007 Ducati Sport Classic Sport 1000S. As for me, I started ski racing in Vermont at the age of 9 years and ultimately made it to the US National Team before my knee gave out. I raced as a Pro for a few years and had to get "a real job" at that point. As a young ski racer the natural thing to do in the summers was to ride motorcycles!? I started riding Moto Cross in the early 1960's on a Honda 50cc. I ultimately got to the 250cc classes on a Bultaco 250cc. I have always had a thing for road racing whether it be IMSA/ALMS or Moto GP. In fact i sponsored and fielded an IMSA GTP team in 1987-1989 with Porsche and FabCar. Today I just enjoy going to and watching 24 hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring or 24 Hours du Le Mans. My other "rides" include; a 2000 Ducati M900, a 2002 BMW K1200RS, a 2003 Aprilia RSV Mille R, a 2005 MV Agusta F4 "Ago" and a 2007 Ducati 1098S...Thank you for keeping "Mike The Bike's" stories and heritage alive and kickin'...And best of luck to his son. He has got the look of his dad!!

Hi, Met Mike @ my cousins wedding,Judith Stoney, married David Chadwick, who was killed eventually at Mettet Belgium.I was introduced to Mike at the reception. He was sat on a couch with two girls on either side.He did not offer his hand because he had his arms around these girls, but he offered me one of his feet to shake instead.I was a little taken aback at the time.but now understanding his sense of humour. I have lost contact with Judith,I believe she is in the Bristol,UK area, Regards, Nick Stoney

Cant believe my luck finding this site.My hero Mike Hailwood.Having the same first name I beleived I was a mike the bike also, however as hard as I tried with roadracing in the early 70's I had only limited success.I owned my first motorcycle on my 15th birthday, the day I passed my driving license.I read Mikes books over & over. I knew the names of every corner at the TT.I cant remember the year,it was about 1976-77 I believe & I met Mike Hailwood in Hamilton.I had tears rolling down my cheeks.Meeting my hero was so emotional for me.the day I heard he died,I hid in my room all day.I was in dis- belief. An old friend.Mike McColl,New Zealand.

Mr. Hailwood was a man I always admired for the many qualities which made of him a world champion in life as well on the track. I saw him race in Italy (Pesaro) at a comeback exhibition race vs. Agostini in 1973 (not sure the exact year) I was only 15, and I am proud to have had that chance. If nowdays we had more people like him, I believe it would be a better world. Thanks for this web site.
