Ralph Bryans
7th March 1942 - 6th August
2014
My son Dave and I were extremely saddened to hear that
dear Ralph had passed away from cancer. I understand
that he had been battling with it for a while and thought
that he was winning, but unfortunately it returned and
he slipped quietly away on the 6th August.
Ralph was a lovely man, a highly respected, quietly
spoken Ulster man, with a great sense of humour. He
was a good friend and team mate of Mike’s when
they both rode for Honda in 1967, and I’m pleased
to say that he had stayed in touch with me over the
years since Mike’s passing.
Ralph had ridden many different makes of machine in
various classes during his career but is probably most
remembered for his successes with Norton, Bultaco, and
of course Honda, with whom he won the 50cc World Championship
in 1967. I’m quite sure that he would have won
more World Championships had Honda not retired from
racing at the end of the 1967 season.
Ralph will be greatly missed by all who knew him,
and Dave and I send our sincere and heartfelt condolences
to his family. Our warmest thoughts are with you at
this very sad time.
