After the great 1978 Isle of Man Formula 1 win, could Mike still do it on a short circuit like Mallory Park, the answer an emphatic YES! Seen in the picture with Mike is John Cowie on his very fast Pecket & McNab 980 Kawasaki at Shaws Hairpin. Mike won the race after laying second behind the Kawasaki for most of the time, but as often happened Mike nipped by to win with John Cowie and his P&M 980 Kawasaki in second chomping at his back tyre.Phil Read and his (works) 888 Honda finished well back in third and John Williams in fourth on his 810 Honda

Notes: Mike's winning time for the 20 Lap Race was 17m-23.1s a speed of 93.18mph. The fastest lap was alsoset by Mike in 51.3s a speed of 94.76. Both records.
