Benelli were on the point of quiting but decided to prepare one of their ageing 350cc fours for Mike to have a comback ride at this especially orgainised Italian meeting. With Mike's appearance the event attracted 60,000 spectators, but Mike riding his heart out, could not keep pace with Agostini on the 500cc MV Agusta triple who cleared off to win. - Jim Blanchard
