250 German Grand Prix • 1966 • Honda 297cc

This is actually a photo of Jim Redman - Jim Blanchard

The plain silver helmet looks like Jim Redman's - Robert Pfeffer

The photo shows Jim Redman in the 250ccm race of the German GP 1966 in Hockenheim with the marvelous 250-Six (You can easily identify the 250ccm bike by the dark green number plates, the 350ccm-class and so the 297ccm-Honda-Six had blue number plates). It was the first GP on the newly modified Hockenmheim-Ring, which was now the MOTODROM. Picture is taken in the south-corner, which leads in the start-and-finish strait. It was a really very hot day, so the Honda team decided: Mike and Jim raced both the 250ccm race (which Mike won, Mike raced the 350ccm Race alone (which he won again), and Jim alone raced the 500ccm Race on the new 500ccm bike, which Jim won. I remember it like it was yesterday, the sound of the six-cylinders was incredible. German Television broadcast covered the races with a full report, with excellent commenting Ernst Leverkus ("Klacks") from German newspaper DAS MOTORRAD. There should be a copy of this tremendous day in the archives. - Helmut Ritter

Race: Hockenheim - Hailwood won the race 0.010sec. ahead of Redman - Detlev Kinnen
