Mike Hailwood
Isn't this photograph, and the one before it, the time
Mike came off at Sarah's cottage on the I.O.M course? If it
is, Ago could fill these gaps in because he had stopped
earlier at the very same spot, and watched Mike come off.
The only difference being, Mike picked his bike up, and with
flattened pipes on one side of the Honda Four, a broken
screen, and damaged levers, Mike continued on.-
Peter R. Farman - Notes: My
mistake. On closer inspection the bike would appear to be
the 500cc MV not the Honda.
Here at Quarter Bridge, having crashed and remounted at
Sarah's he went on to win.- Mad
Dog
This is definately an MV, Mike rode Honda's in the next
year, 1966 - Brian Donovan
This was unquestionably the event which made Mike's name.
No amount of money could buy the ability, courage and sheer
determination to climb back on the battered MV, and with
three carbs jamming open, ride on to win that TT. I have
often used this in inspirational sports speeches. Minor
note, an IOM publication has a picture of me from the 1989
Senior at that very corner on the front cover!! -
Nigel Bryan (Australia)
note: most photos of the Mv showing no5 are from the 1965
senior tt. - Ralph Crellin
