1959 was Mike's second full year of racing. Seeking his first World Championship at the age of ninteen, he managed a third in the 125cc and 5th in the 250cc. He set a few race and lap records on the 500cc later in the year, and starts to show the potential of the all around champion he would become. Any bike, any race, Mike was always in the running.
